I need a thesis idea for compare and contrast social-conflict & structural-functional. ANY IDEAS.
I'M SOO STRESSED OUT WITH THIS PAPER. PLEASE HEPL..:)

I'm not sure what your guidelines are, but try looking up communism. Communism actually has a lot of practical applications, like basic necessities provided for everone, but it is socially impractical, because there can never really be a true communist state. There is always going to be someone who must rule. You could research Karl Marx and his theories in the Communist Manifesto (should be available on-line) and you should probably back it up with some present day examples. Try a search on communism in Russia. There should be plenty of material to work with. Also, another source might be the philosopher Joseph Kant. I believe he said something like "a theory really can't be good if it fails in practice."

Remember to form your thesis in the last sentence of your first paragraph, and make sure your thesis is very general,so that you can fill in the details in your following paragraphs. Try: "By using communism in Russia, it can be shown how a theory can be in conflict with social and practical considerations.

Also, make sure that each of your supporting paragraphs begin with a topic sentence -- a sentence that tells what you are going to say in your paragraph. Ex: The theories of Karl Marx should have worked in a practical sense, but they didn't. (then go into telling about how Marx's theories were formed and then failed under practical application). However, I don't suggest this as an actual topic sentence.

Try this structure for your argument: main idea -1st par.
Explain Marx's theories and how he thought they were going to work -- 2nd par. Detail when Russia first adopted communism and the hope that everyone had at its beginning 3rd par. Detail how communism has failed in Russia, use examples of defectors -- 4th par. final par = sum up everything you already said and restate your thesis.

Remember, any writing is going to be an argument of some kind.
