Ryan smith was crying because hes a fricken wuss. ryan smith is what 30. Adults dont cry because hes leavinng his home town. By the way hes making millions. I wouldnt care if i got traded as long as i am making huge bucks. Ryan smith is a pouting little girl with "EMOTINAL" problems. He's greedy and a baby and he should deal with it like others. In conclution Ryan Smith is a little pusy.

He was crying because he loved the team and city and people tend to get upset when they leave things they love. I would rather have a player cry when he leaves then leave the way Pronger did.

Your own emotionally instability aside, I'm afraid you are making the wrong argument. What you should be asking is why did Ryan Smyth not find a $5.4M/year Oiler offer appealing enough after asking for less ($5M) just last summer? The two sides were $100K/year apart at the end of the day, but Smyth's camp held to their $5.5M number ultimately forcing the trade.

That tells me Smyth was looking to move and, above all else, wanted to participate in the UFA market this summer. So, while his tears might have been genuinely heartfelt, they largely came of his own making.

so what your trying to say that if you where on a team that you loved for 12 years and where friends wqith every single guy on the team and you got traded to somewhere where you didnt kno anyone you wouldnt cry. edmonton is where he started his career and broke two of gretzky's record which is not easy to do no matter who you are. plus being canadian and moving to an american team. and lidstromnumber1fan brings up a good point about mark messier. he love that team and not just the players on it but the entire franchise and the history.

like a brockton hockey player once said we're not just a team we're a family and that is why ryan smyth was cryin

think about it for a little while and cut the guy some slack

He became compelled out of a team that he helped carry about a Stanley Cup very last. He likely said himself staying with the Oilers for a lengthy time period. It likely could be like Steve Yzerman, if (hypothetically) after the 1995 playoff run he were given traded to the Panthers.

Well, consider this; Smyth grew up in the Province of Alberta, he planned on finishing his Career in Edmonton. That is until Oilers' General Manager did the unthinkable, and in my opinion sealed the Oilers' Playoff fate.

you are very immature.
"Adults don't cry" is that a serious statement?

Ryan Smyth loved where he was and he was there for 12 years. I think if I was on a team for 12 years I would cry if I was forced out too.

You are an idiot. You can't spell. I'm sorry that Ryan Smyth (yes, that's with a 'y', moron), also known as "Captain Canada" showed some human emotion when he was traded from edmonton, his hometown team, to the Islanders. In CONCLUSION, you're a loser and nobody likes you.

Gretzky cried when he was traded from Edmonton. Messier cried when they raised his jersey in New York and he cried when they raised his jersey in Edmonton. I've never heard anyone call Messier a wuss.
