sciatic pain. It is one of the worst pains I have ever had. If that's what it is, and it is common during pregnancy, it won't go away until after you have the baby. I haven't found anything that helps it except changing positions when you can, and that only works for a little while. It's not permanent and doesn't hurt the baby.

Yeah I had those same pains in my legs. Especially after a busy day (lots of walking etc.). At the time I also thought it abnormal, but I've already forgotten about them.
If the pain isn't accompanied by swelling (of the legs), extreme nausea or vomiting, headache or blood, then it's nothing serious.
Unfortunately, I can't say for sure if the back pain this early is normal. I have back problems, so when I get pain in my lower back, it usually goes unnoticed with me as 'regular' pain. It's worse now though, so I suppose back pain can start at any time during the pregnancy.

Hi,
Try not to worry, I know how hard this can be as I have had a total of 4 miscarriages but on a positive note I have a 2 year old and am currently 34 weeks pregnant.
If you are going to miscarry you will definately know, it would be like a heavy period and unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it but wait it out.
Sometimes you can worry about every twitch and it may be nothing. All the best.

I never had any pains like that at 5wks its possible that its nothing related to the baby, if it was more like 5 mo along it could be possible that the baby is laying on a nerve and causing that but I dont think that the baby is big enough to do that yet, if you are concerned about it or it gets worse call and as your dr or bring it up in your next appoitment!

Sometimes pregnant women get a condition called Sciatia, although it sounds like it is a little early for you to be going through that. I think that Sciatia is caused by the baby pressing against your Sciatic nerve, and your baby isn't quite big enough to be doing that just yet. I think you should pay a visit to your doctor.

Ya unfortunately it is the first part of what is like back labor:( I had it with my son. The only thing I founf to help out at all was lie on the floor forweward in like a prying position and arch your back...even rolling sided to side tucked up in that position. You need to stretch all those mucsles out! Good luck I feel for you! That is actuall the one part of pregnancy I don't miss....sorry! I hope this helped!

It's probably nothing abnormal but if you are really worried talk to your doctor. Just to put your mind at ease. It is normal for these type pains later on as the baby grows but usually not this early. Anything is possible and if it worries you please call your doctor.Worrying causes stress and stress isn't good for you or your baby! Take care and congrats!

Have you seen the ob/gyn yet? If not, I'd make an appointment. You want to be sure you don't have a kidney or bladder infection, and that the pregnancy is normal and not tubal or extra-uterine. Even if you have seen the doc, I'd give them a call and ask their advice. Good luck!!

it could just be that your body is starting to stretch and get ready to let the baby start growing bigger. your cervix has to stretch to make more room for the baby and the amniotic sac. i had the same problem with i was about 5/6 weeks along. just try to rest whenever you get a pain. your body is doing a lot of work and needs time to rest of re-gain strength.
