I currently have service through T-Mobile and am considering getting a Dash. I am an on-the-go stay-at-home mom and with a new baby, I don't always have time to check my computer for reminders and have double booked appointments after forgetting my datebook. If I were to get a smartphone, would it alert me when I have reminders or would I have to check everyday? I don't want to have to worry about it, I just want something to tell me what to do without me having to do anything. Would the Dash work for getting me more organized?

I have used quite a few pdas in the past 6 years, beginning with a Handspring (Palm look-alike) and ending up with a Palm Treo 700w.
The Palm Treo is a phone and pda with an excellent camera and mp3 player all built in one small package about half the size of a cigarette pack. It runs the Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system, so if you use Windows on another computer you're going to be very familiar with how it works. It has Microsoft Word, Excel, and duplicates Outlook's contacts and email programs all built in.

It also uses Outlook's datebook and will sync seamlessly with Outlook on another computer either by using a connector cable and ActiveSync software, or by infared sync. You can share files the same way. It will also sync with other datebook programs (check the manual).

You can set the datebook to remind you with an alarm either a few minutes before or up to a week ahead of your reminder. You can even do your whole datebook in another computer and sync it to your pda.

My only regret about my Treo Smartphone 700w is the screen is smaller than a non-combo device, but that really isn't a problem.

My 700w is tied to my Verizon account. The "w" indicates it's a Windows operating system device. Some Treos have a "p" which means they're a Palm operating system device. I think those are offered by Sprint.

Another cool thing about the Treo is its ability to go online and use the Internet, though I have to use a special service through Verizon to do that. You can also buy a $99 Wi-Fi card through Palm which circumvents paying Verizon big bucks every month for Internet access. That way, any time you're near a wireless node you can go online for free.

There's a lot of choices in the smartphone realm. Unfortunately, you have to buy one to learn if you like it or not. You might check with your friends to see if they'll let you "test drive" their smartphones before you spend a lot of money.

Good luck!

I don't know about the dash, but I would recomend a sidekick 3, I recently got one for my b-day and it is the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to me...it has a datebook, internet, e-mail access, mp3, bluetooth, camera for that new baby, and much much more...This phone certainly did get me to stay alert, it's kind of pricey starting at $250.00 but, it is definetly worth it, it would be great to have to stay very well organized!
