Love. Simple as that.

We were created because something/someone loved us & brought us into being. We exist in this world to love ourselves, others & the planet & to make the most of this life.

Without love of any kind, life would be meaningless.

The purpose of life in the universe is to work out its own redemption and salvation from the plight it currently suffers.

Love is the means to do this but what exactly does that mean?

It means the unconditional acceptance of all other life -- in its many forms -- and taking responsibility for the condition it is in. Empathy for that which is less and admiration for that which is greater. It also means the betterment of all other things, not just self, because one cannot leave this place without giving a helping hand to others. It just don't work that way.

If you act or believe that you are unable to help then you admit you have no will to act accordingly. That then brings you down to the level of spectator and you then have no further part in the game -- the game of life, that is.

(Oh, and yes, that does equal 42. What was the question, again?)

There is no such thing as a single foundational meaning of life. This is not nihilistic, and it's not nearly as bleak as it sounds. There are _man-made_ meanings, of course, ones we choose for ourselves and ones which are foisted upon us (e.g. caring & providing for family, or writing music), but there's no sole rigid meaning or purpose that's objectively right. Our world is much more fluid than that.

We very much WANT there to be a meaning of life, and we naturally assume there is one, but actually the question (I've asked it too) is flawed - a case of the human understanding getting way too ambitious - a case of the mind projecting onto the universe. It's like asking what the single biggest number is.

The closest thing, perhaps, is simply to keep life going, to survive and pass on genes. For many of us, though, there is (thankfully) no reasonable doubt about surviving and procreating. So really we're left with a world full of possibilities. What it _means_ to me is not something the universe can tell me independently of who I am - it's something we have to figure out for ourselves.

Don't listen to the hype. First, you figure out what you are. What kind of being you are. This is not easy. Study philosophy, learn to meditate, maybe, eat some good food. Talk to people. Then, and this is the secret, you just make something up! Katsu!

Life is not a local event. Universe itself is alive in form which is not understood yet...Life itself speaks for its meaning.

To put it simply, the purpose of life is to progress. I say "simply" because "progression" can really encompass any reason anyone can give - to love, to change, to survive. Whatever.

But what then is the purpose of progression?

I love how people ask the most complex philosophical question known to man without any insight, opinon, or expression of their own.

But to answer your question, the answer is love.
