I have been on the Ring for a year now...my doctor told me that if I chose, I could go without a period. I would spot every couple of months but I was on the Ring almost the entire year STRAIGHT. I found out yesterday that itd fallen out 4 weeks ago and I had NO idea. I havent started my period and the Nuva Ring "hotline" cant help me because my doctor misled me. Worse, I was thinking I was "safe" the past month and I wasnt...so Im a little nervous! I dont know if its possible to ovulate or if I have to have my period first. I dont know anyone who has stopped taking the Ring and how long to expect to wait for my period. I want to get a pregnancy test but I have to wait a few weeks until Ill know for sure if I am or not. How long does the HCG hormone take to show up in a blood test?? SO many questions....HELP!

I'm also on nuvaring, and my gynecologist said it was okay to go back to back without having a regular period in between rings. The first month I still had my period, of course, but since then I get a little brown spotting one day a month and that's the day I switch out the ring. I've had debilitating cramps for years and the other birth control methods I have tried weren't able to stop the cramps, but that's finally over for me. Thank God.

As for ovulation and pregnancy, I don't know. I just did some digging around on the net and it seems that upon taking out the ring your period should come back pretty fast, like within a couple of weeks Also, if you're not having your period and you take the ring out, there is actually a risk of pregnancy from unprotected sex after a mere matter of hours. Last of all, one thing I read is that the ring can fall out under certain circumstances if not inserted correctly, but if you have a problem with it falling out regularly you should see an ob/gyn.

Good luck!

I've been on the Ring for two years. My physician never told me that going on the Ring straight was an option (just IN for 21 days and out for 7), I can't believe your doctor was that reckless.
Your period will possibly be so light that you may not think you had one, especially if you've been on it straight. DON'T freak out, the Ring (as far as I'm concerned) will mess with your period.
As far as pregnancy tests goes, it's definitely better to wait the morning of the fifth/fourth day (and anytime after that) of your missed period. I recommend taking one tomorrow morning in your case.
The same day you put your Ring back in, take a pregnancy test some time BEFORE inserting the Ring. Don't insert the Ring if it's positive.
I don't know anything about blood tests, but I definitely understand your panic.

Ha! no offense but i would ask a Gynecologist ASAP and only a GYn.

Seems to me this new form of birth control used isn't all so simple after all and going without a period may seem like a "good" thing like they tell you dear, but ummm...it is not! It means that there is a high dose of hormones being pumped into you. Yes, they say it is only being directed into the generalized area with that ring. However, that doesn't mean you aren't going to suffer from long term side affects. Long story...

Good luck, i hope you get the help you need and when you do..plllllzzzzzzz..go back to the traditional birth control pill. It is so worth taking a pill every day. You will remember to take it, if you really care about not getting pregnant!

If your pregnant, well i would say right now don't ponder too much on that dear...just relax as much as you can until you get more information.

I wish you all the best.

i work in a pharmacy. there are always good and bad of birth controls. seasonale limits 3-4 periods a year which is unhealthy. when you have your "." every month, the bleeding is the uterous is shedding its layer when there is ovulation. yaz shortens the "." to 3-5 days "." are usually 5-7 days so that ones ok. i really don't trust nuvaring because it has to be placed "inside" of you. there's a chance that it will fall out. there's a chance that it won't. with that, i would ask for a new birth control when you go to your doctor's. you may be pregnant.
