A. Streak. The streak is a very usefull tool to help determine a mineral. Some minerals will streak a different colour than they appear, such as hematite which is metallic grey but has a red streak.
p.s. Evokid is right on hardness. Hardness can be tested using a glass pane. If a mineral can scratch glass then it must be harder than about 8 mohs

Evokid gave you some wrong info, a glass plate determines if a mineral has a hardness greater or lesser than 5. I use a penny to determine if it is hardness is two, a steel knife if it has a hardness of 5 and a piece of quartz for a hardness of 7.
