The best thing to do to practice is to play with kids with:
1) Bigger and Better
2) Faster and Smarter
3) Can leave you breathless.
Then if you keep on playing with them you'll get better!

You just gotta keep practicing, which may sound like a obvious answer, but that is the only way to get better. Practice dribbling with only one hand at a time first and then practice crossovers. The more you dribble the better you will get. You need to play against good players that will force you to be a good dribbler or else you will get it stolen from you if you play anyone good. It just takes time and practice.

basically sounds like ur lacking the confidence. if u can dribble the ball with no one arond u, and then as soon as defence presents itself ur struggling...then ur lack in confidence could be the issue.
to improve this situation u may need to practise dribbling....doesnt sound like its going to do much, but it will. dribble and imagine a defender in front of u, that will help u play/practise at game speed.
playing some 2 on 2, or 3 on 3 will also help remedy the situation. its all about skill development and you will gain these skills with more patience and practice....good luck

It sounded like you needed experience. Try to participate in a actual pick-up game, do it as often as you can.
