I live in VA, I'm Spanish and Italian, I live in the city. I work with low income families to help them fix their cars. I have noticed many times that whites are getting the raw end of the stick. I know that some whites are racists and blacks are not. I was in a line waiting for my two children to play with a inflatabl gym, and a black woman with her son gets infront of me and I say "excuse me you jumped infront of me, I have been waiting in line." She blows off the handle immediately saying things like "I'll smack the white off your face and you wanna take this outside?" All infront of my 2 year old, 11 month old, my mother and the lady's 9 yr old son. I was so upset, I wanted to call the police, but it was a baby shower. I have noticed that my husband is discriminated against at our work also. People call him cracker, even though he is native american. They always joke white people most of the time. One black said all he does is change oil for a living, even though my husband owns

the shop. I also noticed when I was downtown this black man held a magazine that said RACISM in big black lettering, and he was only delivering the magazine to black people. That's racism. many black people say I'm anoxeric because I'm skinny, but I consider myself average. I'm a happy chipper person, and I don't understand why people are being racist to me.

Racism is everywhere, but why? It's just the colour of our skin, not who we are as people

I know this one woman who is white and puerto rican, she and I used to talk, but all of the sudden she doesn't want to talk to me since I'm a tender loving person to my children. She doesn't show emotion from what I have seen to her children, I know it's tough to be a mom, but beating is not okay.

There are ignorant people within all races. One thing I have noticed though is that it seems like it is more acceptable for blacks to call us whities and have all black awards and such but if us whites were to do this then we would be considered racist.

Racism is common among most races. (I can not say all, as I have not done the research, though it would not surprise me.) The simple reason is that people fear the unknown, and if you know the people around you, that look like you, that have the same culture as you, then those that are different are going to be mistrusted initially.

It is so prevalent it even shows itself in our language. Take, for example, the word barbarian. This word generally means uncivilized and generally unpleasant. It comes from the Latin word barbarus(sp? It has been over 17 years since I took Latin.) which simply means foreigner.

Unfortunately, some people use the bible to perpetuate such an attitude by misinterpreting the verse that says something to the effect of "Birds of a feather flock together." They take this to mean that the various races should be separate.

I have seen, though, people get over their racist attitudes. Basically it comes from education and exposure to the unknown. When people see that others, regardless of their color, are just like everyone else, they get over it. It is not always easy, but I have been fortunate enough to see it happen.

Venting aren't we?! Seriously, like some others have said, racists are in all different ethnic groups. If black people are calling your native american husband "cracker" then he must look "white". It doesn't make it right but just trying to get some clarification. Generally speaking black people in America are very defensive. We have to be. When you look back at American history, African-Americans have had to endure so much torture, humiliation, degradation, and abuse. Slavery has been officially over about 140 years, but prejudice has remained imbedded in our psyche. As Americans we have become more tolerant, but the underlying stain of prejudice is still there. This is especially true of low-income (i.e. low education) people regardless of race. If I am to believe your story is correct, then the woman who jumped you in line was wrong without doubt. But don't think in general terms that African-Americans are racists. I would argue that of all the ethnicities in America, African-Americans are the most open and non-racist of any group. I say that because I've seen (and been apart of) how African-Americans respond to things like homosexuality, interracial dating and marriage. We have an insider's view of being discriminated against and can appreciate how much it hurts.

Black applicants without criminal records are no more likely to get a job than white applicants just out of prison, according to a Princeton University study of nearly 1,500 private employers in New York City.

The study, “Discrimination in Low Wage Labor Markets,” was conducted by sociology professors Devah Pager and Bruce Western . It is the largest and most comprehensive project of its kind to date.

The study, which investigated discrimination against young male minorities and ex-offenders by employers, also showed:

• Young white high school graduates were about twice as likely to receive positive responses from New York employers as equally qualified black job seekers;

• Ex-offenders face serious barriers to employment; a criminal record reduced positive responses from employers by about 35 percent for white applicants and 57 percent for black applicants.

Even without criminal records, however, black applicants had low rates of positive responses, about the same as the response rate for white applicants with criminal records. Hispanics also faced discrimination by employers, but were preferred relative to blacks.

Who is being racist again?

Yes, I noticed that too, and I'm a minority. I go to one of the most diverse schools in America, with whites being the minority, and they still deal with racist remarks. I think it's because politicians won't stand up for whites because they're afraid to be labeled a supremacist.
Yeah, but PC is getting pretty ridiculous.

As long as people want to think they are better than anyone else there will be racism and bigotry.

God tells us that we are all sinners. It is a nice way of saying we are all equal. A lot of people don't listen, either because they don't believe or because it does not apply to them.

All I can do is pray.

Racism is prejudices against a person's race. Not their weight, looks, income or anything else.

Anyway, it is more PC for a minority to be racist because they are MINORITIES. You are the majority therefore you have that last laugh when it comes to control and power. So please spare me of your whining. You have no idea what it is like to be a minority. To be considered less and never quite good enough no matter what you do. Does it really hurt you when someone calls you a cracker as much as it hurts a black person to be called a n***er? I think not.

Whites are racist just like they were years ago, accept now they keep it in the closet. White people always complain about Affirmive action keeping them from getting a job when they are better qualified. Well, how many blacks were keep from getting a job because they were black even though they were better qualified? They have done many studies and it is very much true.

Give an inch and they take a mile. Hating whitey is now very acceptable and trendy. Next time a black person says anything regarding your race, just crack them in the jaw. I find it very effective, though I get jumped after, it still feels good.
