I know it's a huge bar song, and has become popular, but it just is an average 80's song. I just don't get how a song that just is not that good got so popular. The song isn't even really catchy.

I get sick of hearing it on the radio. I really don't know how it got so popular.

Perhaps this is a discussion for another day, but wouldn't you say Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water" gets the same attention? Our high school band played it all the time, and I hear it on the radio, but really. Stop playing it!!!

I think it's old and a little worn out, but not overrated. That's like saying Michael Jordan is overrated when he plays a pickup game in his backyard with some friends because it's not the NBA anymore and he's not what he once was. That song earned it's reputation, and evidently many people still recognize it or else they wouldn't play it so much on the radio! Instead of whining about a good 20+ year- old song getting air time, how about those 5 minute- old songs that get WAAAAAY too much air time on the radio? They haven't earned it, it's just that the record companies pay big bucks to promote it. That hardly seems fair...

If you think it's overrated, ask yourself if people will be listening to it in a hundred years. How about 500 or a 1000? I think people far into the future will be singing songs of inspiration until humans are extinct. This is defiinitely one of those songs.

The song made VH1's 100 Greatest Songs Of The 80s (Aired in 2006) and VH1's 100 Greatest Songs Of The Past 25 Years (Aired in 2003). Apparently, alot of people love this song.

those defending it are sheep. the song is the trash. why so many sheep love it so much baffles me. probably has something to do with their crappy normal lives aren't satisfying them and they need something to attach themselves to. either way the song is an overrated POS and hopefully the hype for it will die eventually.

Ugh... Yes. I can't stand Journey. And I think I'm, like, the ONLY person who can't stand them. His voice, to me, is like fingernails on a chalkboard...
