Because they were reptiles. Reptiles are cold blooded and don't need warmth...though...turtles and alligators and crocks bury eggs in loose dirt that's rather mulch-like, because it DOES actually create some heat as the leaf litter rots. The temperature inside the mound where they lay the eggs, determines the gender of the babies.

Probably because the climate is warm. Reptiles are cold blooded meaning their body can't regulate it's temperature very well, so they usually live in warmer places. If the climate is warm, then they don't really need to make the eggs any warmer.

I don't think alligator eggs need much heat to incubate and hatch either. If I remember, the female gathers muck and vegetation and the decomposing material creates enough heat to incubate her eggs.

They probably did need warmth. The heat is provided by the rotting vegetation their mother buries them in.

did they put rotting leaves and dirt on it? because they heat up when rotting, like compost does, some birds still do this.
