Education is wisdom, or at least the training of the brain to learn. Education teaches you the basics and beyond.
Education isn't only in schools it is in everyday life, teachers are always re-educating themselves, Doctors lawyers have to be up on the latest for their profession or they become dumb, not mentally challenged dumb but dumb in the sense that they became stale in their ideas and stopped growing. I am an engineer and if I didn't take classes to learn new electrical laws, technologies I would be useless to the field in which I have chosen.

Define education.

If education is the gaining of knowledge, then the importance is to gain income by working in a field. This is what most peopple are taught in school.

If education is the development of an individual for a known purpose, then education takes a very different perpective from the previously given importance.

If you know your purpose and your talents, you can focus on your life's mission and make the most of your potential. Developing your skills and work ethic around your mission will make your education much more valuable.

There is a book called The Millionairre Mind. In it , the author interviews several millionairre-class families and individuals. Most of them say intellectual side of their education held less bearring than the work-ethic side of their education. They say dedication is what will make your education valuable to you.

I never considered my high-school education highly valuable. I also went to a high school where the belief was not in persoanl development. They were more concerned with graduating as many people as possible with as little effort possible on behalf of the staff. Work ethic was something students were supposed to already know, not something they should be willing to teach.

I am 56, a recently retired elem teacher who thought if kids could just get a good education, they could get better jobs. But then my own two had very different personalities than mine. My daughter lacks aggressiveness and desire for challenge to go out and seek a good job, even tho her IQ is in the 99%. So she really didn't need to go to college, because she doesn't have what it takes to"fight your way" into the real world. She likes to do home health care. I'm sure statistically folks make more money overall with a good education, but neither of my kids have the "fight" or whatever you want to call it. They took after their dad and we've been divorced for a long time. On the other hand,my huge drive often makes people crazy because I'm so intense, so this is part to consider, because I went into education to help the poor get educated, but it takes more than knowledge to obtain a good job. Both of my kids are really smart, but lacking in perseverance in the natural born personality.

Education is important, but you must also learn to become "street smart" too to survive in this competitive world. Education helps teach you how to think and learn, but could you survive if you were suddenly thrown into the wilderness or were forced into a situation like this (like an earthquake that destroyed everything)? Both experience and education are they key to people who get top scores in organizations like Mensa! Try taking an IQ test- they incorporate both these and help you use what you learn through education and how to think in unusual ways that you would not normally expect- like real world situations! You might know how to do derivatives, chemical equations, and write essays, but would you be able to put together a fishing rod from wood and fibre gathered from tree bark and animal fat? Could you construct a sling shot to use for food and survival? Would you be able to build a shelter? Would you be able to use knowledge of knots to put a shelter together with in various environments and survive extreme conditions like snow, deserts, and so on? Can you associate puzzles and pictures to solve certain problems?
