get control over what processes the system is running.
poke through your msconfig and see what shakes loose. run a spyware scan every once in a while as well.

Buy ram
Delete files that you don't need
Run hard drive clean up
Defrag your hard drive
use a spyware program to remove spyware also.
Try buying a external hard drive, save all your huge files on it to save your pc space.

1. Get more RAM or Better processor
2. Defragment your hard drive found under system tools
3. free up disk space of stupid things you don't need

More RAM! as much as your computer can handle, as much as you can afford. A new processor wouldn't hurt either.
