If the match is all square at the end of full time then a period of extra time of 30 minutes, split into two halves of 15 minutes each is played. If, at the end of this time the scores remain level then a 'Penalty shot out' is undertaken consisting of each team having 5 penalties each taken by a different nominated player, if after these the scores remain level it continues until the first team misses.

depends on the rules that they are playing.
there are 2 that i know of.
first is golden goal which is when the first team to score wins.
e.g euro 2000 final, france and italy
silver goal is when they play the whole 30 miutes till the end, no matter if the opposing team has scored 5, they play till the end.

with both rules, if it stays even score at the end of extra time thy automatically go on to penalties.

They don't play golden goal... I think they find it very emotional.

The rule is full 30 minutes then penalties.

Thanx!
