Yes, and it really helps if your working in a criminal defense firm or for the state or federal government. I graduated last year with my paralegal certificate from the University of Oklahoma and next year I will graduate with my Bachelor's in Criminal Justice. It has really helped me. I've gotten so many job offers. Many attorneys (especially in a small town or firm) don't even worry about a degree or certificate, but it helps you make that much more money.

For the most part, paralegals are not a highly regulated profession. You can be a paralegal with our without a criminal justice degree. In fact, most states don't even have specific educational requirements or even regulate the use of the term paralegal. There are many paralegals who just have on the job training from the attorneys they work for.
There are schools where you can earn a paralegal certificate after one semester of classes. If you go that route, make sure the program is approved by the American Bar Association.

Absolutely, I'd rather have a paralegal with a criminal justice degree than a straight paralegal degree any day. Then again, I only practice criminal law.

Sure can.
Some employers require a paralegal certificate from an ABA approved school. Most do not.
