My dad (on accident) put a pot on our hardwood kitchen floor and poured almost boiling water into it (don"t ask why) and now there is this big spot or mark where the pot was

I think that it burned off the top layer of paint because the spot is not shiny anymore

how do i go about repairing it? do i use wax or varnish? if so what kind? thanks a lot

lila,

are you speaking about the polyurethane finish or real PAINT?

if you mean the poly, then just lightly sand the spot and recoat with some oil based polyurethane.

if you mean real PAINT, then sand lightly until the edges are blended and repaint with the same paint.

It sounds such as you have a substantial undertaking. because of the fact maximum hardwood flooring are tongue and groove it is going to likely be difficult to eliminate boards from the midsection with out commencing on the section. i visit assume out of your description on the varied issues that that's a marginally previous abode. have they have been given flooring which will journey? If the timber became into dry and did no longer have a shielding sealant on it while the spots of stain, paint and glue have been given on it, those discolorations have soaked into the timber and could ought to be sanded out. the floor won't be in any shape for sanding. an option that's beneficial to to contemplate could be timber laminate flooring. you're able to have it laid over the present floor and the only way you could tell it from organic timber floor is that it would not have any imperfections.
