minorities get treated special? You would figure that by now, we all know we each make our own destiny. All those scholarships could be done with proof of family income... call it a poverty scholarship. They don't have to be reserved for minorities only! Don't you think that there are caucasians in poverty as well? Why is it that a Miss Black America is allowed on TV? Why is it that a company can't just hire who ever is qualified for the job no matter their color? I'm sure we could find a way to proove that a company is predjudice, but, a school? Neighborhoods seem to determine which children are going to be in the schools by who lives in those communities. It just seems to me that the real point to the end of segrigation is lost if we are forced to do it anyway. The government keeps us segrigated! In Other countries, I've seen people asked... they don't say I'm black, or African English! They say, I'm English, or I'm German... So why do people segrigate here if they want equality?

You are right on. The law and society has done all we can to make everyone equal. Now it is time for each of us to take it from here.
As long as minorities make themselves different, deserving of more, allowed to say and do 'whatever', they are separating themselves and holding the whole group back. Some people don't want things to change. Some people of all races like having an excuse for not succeeding. It is easier than going through the pains of success. Or they like the attention.
And, blacks are allowed to get away with saying and doing things that other people cannot. Can you imagine if a white mayor declared that New Orleans was going to be a "white city as it was intended"? What would happen if we held a 'white' miss America or a heterosexual ball team or a heterosexual white month?

Good question.I`m Irish but I don`t say I`m Irish American,or white American.I say I`m an American. We`ve made a lot of head way in this country against racial problems .I know we still have a ways to go.When we can get to the point that we don`t look at color and say that man /woman is the best person for the job or that person is a great athlete or what ever they might be, then our nation will be on its way to complete freedom for everyone ,regardless of race or gender.I believe that this will only be accomplished if each and everyone of us strives to make that happen.

It's because people aren't treated equal. I'm not sure how many people actually consider them equal, but they certainly aren't treated equal. Countries place equalization bills in effect in an effort that doesn't so much treat people equal as give them special privilidges and to draw a curtain over the eyes of the uneducated and those who would complain. There's still complaints, just less now I imagine, so they take this trade-off for convienence. I could say a lot, but there's really no need, there is however no way you could convince me people are treated equal, and there are a lot of people out there whom I would rather not consider equal to myself anyway.

We all have a right to equal opportunity; we are not all equal.
Historically, minorities have been denied opportunities and so legislation (such as affirmative action) is trying to provide opportunities to those who have been denied them for decades.
And there are scholarships that are based solely on income. Not all scholarships are for minorities. And usually those that are for minorities are based on merit or accomplishment, not income.
There can never truly be equality - here or in any other country. The best we can do is offer equal opportunities to everyone.

Scholarships are from people who choose to do whatever they want with their money. So these people choose to give it to any one. Women are white too and they get scholarships for being women. You can take a Look at the Miss America pagent as proof of that. There are no requirements on how smart they are.The Miss America pagent is based on european features. This makes it very bias towards others. This is why a Miss Black america pagent was created. How many Miss America's do you know that won it with an afro?
In New York, the following was found out by Princeton University
Black applicants without criminal records are no more likely to get a job than white applicants just out of prison, according to a Princeton University study of nearly 1,500 private employers in New York City.
The study, “Discrimination in Low Wage Labor Markets,” was conducted by sociology professors Devah Pager and Bruce Western . It is the largest and most comprehensive project of its kind to date.
The study, which investigated discrimination against young male minorities and ex-offenders by employers, also showed:
• Young white high school graduates were about twice as likely to receive positive responses from New York employers as equally qualified black job seekers;
• Ex-offenders face serious barriers to employment; a criminal record reduced positive responses from employers by about 35 percent for white applicants and 57 percent for black applicants.
Even without criminal records, however, black applicants had low rates of positive responses, about the same as the response rate for white applicants with criminal records. Hispanics also faced discrimination by employers, but were preferred relative to blacks.
"The results of this landmark study are deeply disturbing and highlight the need for strong enforcement of the New York City Human Rights Law," said Patricia Gatling, commissioner of the New York City Commission on Human Rights, which assisted in the study. In New York City it is illegal for employers to discriminate on the basis of race or a criminal record.

It seems we are trying to overdo the sins of the past but here in our little neck of the woods it seem that the ones who are the least likely to suceed are the the ones who get the job, schollarships and any thing free to pass out.
