Two of the previous answers are correct. It is so that the watch looks nice (smiling) and that all of the info/details on the watch face are visible. Mostly it is one of the stupid subliminal advertising tricks that just makes us think the watch looks nice because of the symetrical aspect of the hands being in that position. As humans, we are attracted to things that are symetrical (models, flower arrangments, etc.)

I watched a tv show about advertising a while ago and they also said that it appeared that the watch was smiling. I suppose 10:10 is the real happy hour/ minute.

I worked at a jewelry store where we always had to have the watches set to that time. I was told it was because the watches appeared to be smiling and the looked more appealing to someone looking at it.

i've read that if u do so,the brand , the cool stuff inside the dial etc
will b seen very clearly
