I have had 2-3 inch long strands of mucus coming out down there, for about 4 days, and told my doctor today. He checked my cervix and said I am dilated to 2 cm. He suggested that I cut down on my hours at work. My baby is only 4 pounds, 1 oz. He said the head is measuring at 33, the chest at 32, and the stomach at 31. He is concerned about the stomach measurement, and is going to do weekly ultrasounds. I have only gained 12 pounds, but I eat a lot, just healthy, weight is at 218, I'm 5'6. Any estimates on when I may deliver, and whether or not it is the plug, and why the baby is so small? My due date is April 20th.

Lisa, I know I'm overweight. I weighed 248 pounds at the beginning of this year, and got down to 206 through diet and exercise. Then I got pregnant, and have continued to walk and eat healthy, but did increase my calories for the baby. That was hurtful.

Dont worry to much. I lost my mucus plug at 33 weeks. I didnt deliver until 38 and a half weeks. Listen to your doc, and cut back at work. Your 34 weeks, well 37 is considered full term. Just try to relax and dont do to much. I would know nothing about small babies, mine were 9lbs 6oz and 9lbs 3oz. How big were you when you were born? How big was the babys daddy? That can play a factor on why your baby is so small to. As long as the baby reaches 5 pounds, he/she should be okay. Dont worry to much, that can throw you into labor to. I stayed dialated at 2 cm with my daughter for 2 and a half weeks. Good Luck :)

you could be loosing your plug...even still, it can take many days after that before the baby comes. At 34 weeks, if the baby was born, it would probably be okay. Same with dilating, it does not mean you will have the baby right away. Everyone is different. If a 6 month pregnant woman can have a healthy baby, im sure yours will be just fine.

I lost my mucus plug just before 34 weeks pregnant with my first and was about 2cm. It was gross yes! But I didn't go into labor until I was nearly 39 weeks along.

Unfortunately, there is no way to guess the estimated date of your birth, or the size of your baby! No reason to worry if you're losing your mucus plug, it's very common for women to be 2 or more cm dilated for weeks, even months. Hang tight, take it easy, get plenty of rest,

my g/f walked around 4 cm dilated for 7 weeks and they had to induce her into labor...you can also lose your plug weeks before you are due...your doc is just being precautions by telling you to slow down...there could possibly be absolutely nothing wrong. If your doc was really worried he'd have put you on full bed rest. good luck with your baby.

Go to bed and don't do a thing around the house. If you shuld deliver the baby should be fine some babies only weigh 2 lbs and survive so try not to worry too much.

You still have time to add weight to the baby. Relax and do what the others have suggested, take time off from work.
Every hour you are awake say this:
My baby is healthy and will be born at the right time.

My first was 36 weeks and she was 6.3 lbs. Please be easy...do NOT overexert yourself...I think that is why mine was early - overworking myself. You don't want a baby that can't live without assistance. Rest and take it easy to make sure you don't throw yourself into early labor. Take a day or two off, really. You don't want a baby on life support. Best of luck!
