No....It teaches a valuable lesson in morals and its an excellent novel for teenagers to read in high school. I personally love the book; you can relate so much from it to today's society. I love Scout and Atticus.

I don't believe in banning books. I had an English teacher in High School who tried to ban the book Blood Brothers on the grounds that it was about a racial subject. It was and so is To Kill a Mockingbird. But they are both books that make you aware of the problems that we have as a people in getting along with others who are not the same as we are. The problem is with people who don't want to discuss the problems others have to deal with.

Certainly not. Those who say that the novel should be banned because it is 'racist' have obviously never bothered to read the entire novel.
It is not primarily a book about race. It is a book of two children who pass from the innocence of childhood into the awareness of the sorrows of adulthood.
Generations of Grade 10 students in this province have read this book, and when it was sometimes beyond the reading skills of some of my Grade 10 students, I read it aloud to the whole class.
It has been claimed that the book contains "racially charged language and innuendoes". Indeed it does. But they are used by the characters in the book who are themselves racist, and so are a condemnation of both the characters and of racism.

No it is an intriguing book and teaches many lessons of life to young students all across the world. Because it uses realistic everyday language and has some scenes does not mean it should be banned.

well it deals with racism and teaches moral values, as well as it being a classic..... banning it would be completely idiotic becuase the only reason i could think of doing such a thing would be sheltering the children who would read it from hearing about the racism... which is truely just reather stupid........

Absolutely not, it is a pivotal work of American fiction and just a wonderful story in general.

And I don't think ANY books should be banned.

I think it should be exalted. A classic such as this comes only once or twice a century. I'm glad I was alive during it's heyday. My grandchildren will be reading it to their grandchildren.
