they are edible. the pod shells themselves are as well classified as foliage, not fruit. the rest of the plant tastes basically the same.

I am sure there would be no harm in eating the leaves,provided they have not been sprayed recently with a pesticide,Though I have never heard of it ever being used as edible food stuff, & haven't the faintest idea what they would taste like.I know that bean plants as well as all other leguminous plants of the bean family make excellent fodder & are a rich source of protein for cattle & livestock ,also very good as mulch or for composting .

never heard of anyone eating them, but they make great mulch, dig them into the soil
