Scooter Libby is the former cjief of staff for vice president dick Cheney. Some time ago a US Ambassador, the husband of then-CIA agent Valerie Plame, criticiaed George Bush for his talk about the non-existant weapons of mass destruction. Shortly thereafter, Scooter Libby let it be known that Ms. Plame was a CIA agent, endangering her and her extensive network. Libby denied that he was the one who outed her. The jury found him guilty of perjury and obstruction of justice. Many people think that the outing was retaliatory with its origin in the notoriously retaliatory Bush regime. The significance is that even tho Libby is just a fall guy, these kinds of retaliatory actions will not be tolerated in the US. The problem with the whole thing is that it doesn't help Ms. Plame or her network, not to mention national security.
