Don't judge a book by its cover. Even though the character development in that movie was pretty shallow, there was more to the main character than the fact that he was a 40 year old virgin. It was the basis of the relationship that was build between him and the female character.
I guess you could also say that the moral was to keep all your childhood toys. They will be worth a fortune someday on eBay!! LOL

The message is it is okay to be a virgin at 40 if you choose to. Don't let people pressure you. Be honest with the person you are dating concerning your intent when it comes to sex. The 40 year old virgin was a help to a young teen girl, his soon to be daughter in the movie. Secondly, all his pent up energy made the wedding day unforgettable. Sex before marriage is overrated.

That it's okay to be a virgin at age 40 and that you don't have to give into peer pressure just because everyone else around you have done the deed. It's okay to wait till you find that someone special and save yourself for marriage or the right person to share it with. hope it helps with your class.

Hmm- interesting question because I have actually thought about the films social commentary, but more in the realm of dating. Let's see...
We, society, make SEX this HUGGGE deal because of the way its displayed in the media, advertising, etc. For that reason, people are constantly being sexually stimulated- some can't handle it and become adverse to sex, and something apart of human nature is tainted as a result.
There's more to this but I'm exhausted. Hope this helps.

The movie explains to people that goog things come to those that wait. It also shows the peer pressure people go through at that point. I hope this helps.
