I have excellent grammer skills. When writing and talking, I usually make no grammer mistakes. Most people think I am an English expert. And to some degree I consider myself great with English grammer. However, when I took the SAT writing, I scored really poorly. While taking the test, I thought that it was really easy. Later I learned, however, that I did poorly. Why is this?

After the new change in SAT to include a writing section, the average SAT scores went down, and that's because of mostly... (from Highest to Lowest)
1 - Grammar (Grammar is becoming the biggest problem because
2 - Length (I'm not kidding. If you aren't writing enough, it hurts you because people believe you don't have much knowledge in what you are writing about.)
3 - Spelling (You have no idea how many people don't know how to.)
4 - Slang talk (A lot of kids argue wether something is slang or not. This is becoming a hot issue in my school. Also words like "really" or "badly" do count in this.)
5 - Vocab, Structure... (The rest go in here.)

By reading your paragraph, I would like to say you need to brush up on your grammer skills. The word badly is poor english. I scored really poorly, drop the really part.

I am a recently retired elem teacher, which takes you back to the basics of writing. Process Writing might be one you might want to search online or check with an elem teacher. I was like you years ago, and teaching the steps of process writing taught me how to write. It is not hard, but now when they 'grade" writing, they look for specific things as taught in process writing.

the writing section sometimes have quesitons that have concepts not well known or contradicted by street slang. they can be really subtle. But don't worry, people always tend to score the lowest on writing , including me
