I saw an online article that suggested putting a bowl of water and vinegar in the microwave and heating on high for 3 minutes, then wiping it out. It says, "The vinegar will take care of that funky popcorn/bacon smell combo most everyone's microwave has." It's worth a try.

Put some tapwater in a dish and run your microwave for a bit to get it steamy. Watch out though, that water will be very hot but not boil like normal, so don't underestimate it.

Anyhow, the steam softens up anything stuck on the sides, then you can just wipe it. If the smell persists just stick an open packet of baking soda in there for a couple days and it'll vanish.

Err or leave the door open so the smell can work out of it.

Wash the inside well with baking soda, let dry, after that if it still smells, try microwaving a cup of water with some lemon or orange peels.

Clean the inside of the microwave with a strong smelling cleaner like pinesol that should do the trick.

Vinegar will do it.

Wipe the microwave out with a soft cloth or paper towel dampened with white vinegar.

and the strong smell of the vinegar disappears too.
