I'm gonna guess that they'd slow you down. Why would you think that putting more weight on would make you go faster? Sarcasm. Yes, weight will help build the muscles and improve your time. Like swimmers who shave of all their body hair before a race. The hair offered resistance for the purposes of training, but when removed, the body is less inhibited, but still has the ability to work at the previous, subdued level. Practice with them all the time, but take them off for the run, and at game time, obviuosly.

Ankle weights will help you build the strength you need to run a FAST 40.
I strongly caution the amount of weight used and length of time you use them. The extra weight could damage your knees if you are not careful. I have done alot of training in the past ....I am 33 yrs old and my knees are shot....between my past work out routine and the US ARMY, I have the knees of a 60 yr old.

Once you get where you want to be...your GOAL.... I would discontinue the use of ankle weights. Good Luck in your quest for SPEED. -Playbookcritic

Yes, the resistance builds muscle and speed. Those resistance parachutes work really well too. Just take it easy at first, 2 lb. weights to start and make sure you stretch well before using them. Specifically, make sure you stretch your achilles tendon/calf well because the extra tension could be harmful.

Also make sure you're getting the proper amount of potassium to avoid cramps, because carrying the extra weight will make you more prone to them. Eat plenty of bananas.

yes it will, but don't go more than 2&1 half pound starting out... you will need to build your leg strength a little at a time, or you will burn out fast...go light at first...only put on the weights at practice. do not use in the race, but you should know that, walk around with them for awhile before you start your practice, and dont over do it,,

They most definately will my friend. However, I beseech you, start off low, (maybe 5 or 10 lbs) then gradually work your way up. Don't start high because it'll just be a train wreck, not to mention you'll injure your knees, just take it one step at a time.
