I use the brand "answer" and I purchase them at wal-mart. I start taking the tests 11 days after the FIRST day of my period. When I get a positive test (two lines, the test line darker than the control line) then I know that i will be ovulating in the next 24-48 hours. This is the best time to start having sex because you are most fertile 24-48 hours before ovulation and up to 24 hours after. I hope this helps Good Luck!!

They test the presence of Lutenizing hormone (LH), which surges right before ovulation. A little is always in your system, but it becomes really high right before. So there are two bands, a control band and a test band. You pee on the stick and if the test band turns as dark or darker than the control band, you have high levels of LH in your system, and ovulation should be 24-36 hours away. Its best to start a few days after your period, and using morning urine, continue until you detect the surge. There are also digital ones now, in which a smiley face shows up when the LH surge is predicted. I am not sure of the brand. Some brands come with more test sticks, so you can keep on testing until you test positive. There are also other ovulation prediction methods based on testing your temperature and examining your cervical mucus. Also keep in mind, that an LH surge does not absolutely mean you are going to ovulate. Occasionally, certain female hormonal imbalances or taking fertility drugs will show high levels of LH.
