First - I think you should pick a side. Do you think it's okay to use animals for testing if it means it saves lives? Example - The Primate Center at UC Davis is where they give monkeys AIDS and then study how to cure them, in hope of developing ways to cure people of AIDS.

Or, Do you think it's okay for scientists to try new cosmestics on baby pigs to see if they have allergic reactions to the dyes? Do you think we need more cosmestics in our stores? And if you don't, then why not?

Then, once you've decided what you think, (yes, I think we should use animals for scientific testing or no I don't) make a simple poster that says what you think.

You can find authorative statements by just "googling" the topic and you'll have more comments than you know what to do with.

Now, think about it, and take a position! Stop fretting and go do your homework! :-) You can do this. It will be fun!

Megan,
I think this is a very interesting topic for you to learn and practice research. Do you have pets? If I were you I would do one that is FOR animal rights. Animal rights is the movement to protect non-human animals from being used or regarded as property by humans. One great website is http://www.peta.org/. I am sure you will find a great deal of information in this site. There are also many stars who support this cause such as the sexy Pam Anderson, Pink, Forest Whitaker, and Joana Krupa among others.
Whats more there is another link to the website for an audience your age. I hope this really helps you out for the entire and amazing project i'm sure you can put together. The website itself will even help you with the slogan, examples, and other things. I would like for you to do something spectacular than your classmates.

For the paper/poster to have any meaning at all, it has to reflect an actual belief on your part. I suggest that you do some research into animal testing to see what it entails, and then decide whether you support or oppose animal testing, and proceed from there. (I suggest that you avoid PETA websites; they're extremists and don't do their homework most of the time.)

For you to state that you only want to do what's easy displays great laziness on your part. Do the work yourself and you'll actually learn something. We're not here to do your homework for you!

Have you ever wondered how many animals suffer in labs? It's a good question. Because there are so many animals in laboratories and records are not kept for all animals, estimates of the number of animals tortured and killed annually in U.S. laboratories vary widely but are in the millions.

The Animal Welfare Act requires laboratories to report the number of animals used in experiments, but it does not cover mice, rats, and birds (used in some 80 to 95 percent of all experiments). Because these animals are not covered by the act, they remain uncounted, and we can only guess at how many actually suffer and die each year.

Many household products and cosmetics companies still pump their products into animals' stomachs, rub them onto their skin, squirt them into their eyes, or force animals to inhale them as aerosol sprays. Charities such as the March of Dimes use donations from private citizens to fund experiments on animals, and the FDA requires all drugs to be tested on animals. However, animals differ from humans significantly, making animal drug tests unreliable and dangerous. New research methods, such as computer models, cell cultures, and human studies are more accurate, less expensive, and much more humane.

Companies that do not test on animals proudly state it on their labels. Send back items that you have from companies that test on animals, and write a letter to the companies explaining why you won't buy their products anymore.
