Back in the Run DMC days, it was rap. Then it became hip hop. Why did that name come around and is there a difference between the two?

Basically everyone answering this question has it backwards or just completely wrong. Hip hop and rap are not the same thing, although they are closely related. Hip hop isn't as much a music genre as it is a cultural movement. Hip hop culture itself evolved (mainly among the Black community) in New York in the late 1970's BEFORE actual emceeing (rapping) was developed. Rapping, however, is considered to be among the four main "pillars" if you will, of hip hop: DJing (turntablism), rapping, break dancing (b boying), and graffiti.
Recently, however, the terms rap and hip hop have been confused and used interchangeably. Now when people reference "hip hop" music they are generally alluding to rhythmic "urban" music that may or may not have rapping and if the label was applied to rappers it would be talking about the more socially conscious/less commercial artists.
The name hip hop has been around from almost the beginning of the movement and is generally thought to have been coined by the rapper Cowboy Keith who was a member of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.
To sum up my answer to your question, Rap did not become hip hop, rap is a part of hip hop and therein lies the difference in the two.

Hip hop and rap are one and the same. Rap was a term that was popularized and attributed to the genre back when Sugar Hill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" first hit the charts, obviously because of the name. However, Sugar Hill Gang's inentions were not to identify themselves as rappers; rather, they, as well as (most) hip hop artists past and present, prefer to be known as "MCs". MC, incidentally, originated as an abbreviation of "emcee", which is defined as one with a microphone, or an announcer.

Both names for the genre prevail today despite the performers' preference for "hip hop" (which mimics the sound of beats as well as the breakdance movement that came out of it), and seem to have been given different connotations, as is shown by someone else's answer on here that "rap" is more "hard" versus "hip hop" being more melodical. I don't think these connotations hold much water at the moment, but they could certainly solidify in the coming years, as cultural buckets tend to do.

Anyway, there's my answer! Whip THAT one out at the cafeteria tomorrow.

there is not a distinction between Hip Hop and Hip-Hop, as they only have a splash between them. What you are able to desire to understand is that "Hip Hop" and "Rap" are 2 somewhat some issues. Hip Hop is the final way of existence, the flow, the way of existence, that has Rap music in it. Rap is the call, this type of the music that persons in touch in Hip Hop way of existence make. it particularly is an exceptionally straightforward mistake.

It's very possible to learn to sing well. You just need to know the right methods. Learn here https://tr.im/P5u8b

Singing teachers will cost money and can be expensive so they're not for everyone. Singing can be learned so it's not an "either you have it or you don't" kind of thing.

Whether you sound like crap or you're decent, I recommend this singing course. It's one of the best methods to learn to sing well in a short amount of time. It's all about using efficient techniques that work.
