I have always been like this. When I was little, I used to suck on my toes... (lol). I just recently realized that I am always someway or another, touching my mouth or chewing on something. It drives me crazy when I can't do anything with my mouth. What is this called again? I learned it in psychology, but I don't remember!

& don't get perverted! I don't mean it that way!

It's an oral fixation and it's just a way of dealing with stress and relaxing.

I agree it is a reflex from infanthood. Babies suckle on breast, or bottle, and it is very soothing for them. When they are toddlers, parents are constantly giving them little snacks to keep them quite or preoccupied. Look at a lot of toddlers in their strollers, they've always got crackers in their hand. I think you still have a connection to this. A lot of us still find it soothing to eat, smoke and drink. You are not alone. At least your habit doesn't have any calories.

I don't know what the name is, but newborns are given pacifiers to soothe. If no pacifier is available, some kids resort to thumbs...or in your case toes. It's a learned and sometimes forced trait from our parents.

goes back to your childhood...maybe it was the binkie thing. they say overeaters do it because their parent gave them food when they were sad as a toddler or child and so they "learned" that was how to cope...eat. so maybe it's like that.
