I just had a baby 6 1/2 weeks ago and am now going to get Mirena. Who out there has used it or is using it now? What do you think about it? Have you gotten pregnant while using it? What have been your side effects. If you can give me any other information about it that would be helpful.

Thanks in advance!

I didn't have a good experience with mirena. I had it put in at my six week check up after having my son and I bled for fourth months straight. The nurse told me this is really typical and it should stop within six months. That seemed crazy and I was sick of it by four months so I got it taken out (my husband's in Iraq anyway, there was no point in suffering through birth control I had no use for anyway). When she went to take it out she found that I had "partial expulsion" which means my body was trying to reject it and had pushed it half way out of my uterus, it was actually stuck in my cervix which presented a huge risk of infection. that's also why I bled so much. IUD's just work for some people and not for others, when my mom had one it perforated her uterus and she had to have surgery and couldn't have any more children, but that was twenty years ago, IUD's are way different now. I think Mirena is typically very safe and people have had good results with it. my next door neighbor had hers put in the same time as me, bled for two days, and has been perfectly fine ever since. You might just wanna give it a try and see how you feel. Just trust your body and don't let this nurses convince you to like it if it doesn't feel right.

I have had wonderful results. I love it. It came highly recommended. I did cramp for a little bit and the spotting does get annoying and seems to last forever but the end results are worth it to me. In my Dr's practice only 1 woman has gotten pregnant on the IUD and he has been in practice for over 20 years. My husband and I do not use any type of protection and I have had mine for a year in April/May. I feel perfectly safe. I had a son while on the pill and my youngest while using the ring. I am too young for surgery so my Dr said this was the most effective form of BC out there.

I have had Mirena since my second daughter last year, and I love it. It is pretty uncomfortable when it is inserted, and I had menstrual like cramps for a few days. After that, I haven't had a single problem. I have only had one light period, and then they stopped all together. My husband told me he could feel the strings poking him for a month or so, but then they coiled up and haven't caused any problems since. I haven't had any other side effects or complaints. It is extremely effective (even more than sterilization) and immediately reversible. It is also good for 5 years. Check out the website. It is very user-friendly.

Good luck!

Take Advil BEFORE you go get it. They didn't tell me until I got there that you'll more than likely cramp for at least a day... And I did. I've had it for a little over a month & I'm still lightly bleeding everyday... It's becoming really annoying because I quit bleeding a week after my baby was born so this is way worse. Hopefully (very soon) I'll look back and say it was worth it. I like that it's there and I don't have to even think about it (again, soon hopefully). Anyway, that's my story.
