On Windows 98, I am trying to connect a USB hard drive in order to back up data from it and retire it. It's a hard drive I put in a generic enclosure, so I don't even know what device to get a driver for, is it the drive or the enclosure? Where can I get the drivers at? Are there generic drivers for USB drives?

The early version of Win 98 did not support USB. The second edition did but there are few companies today who support 98 since microsoft doesn't any more. Did you try going to the manufacturer's web site? After all they are the only one's who need to supply them. Google if ya gotta. Or slave in an old IDE drive

Find the brand name of the enclosure and go to their website for driver updates. I would send you to the Microsoft website but they no longer support Win 98.
