I was in the play offs for my school team today and i lost on my last shot for a draw to the button. I was short about a foot. : ( During the game i missed several shots because i have inconsistant weight. Is there anyway i can help make my weight for shot more consistant, other than just more practise. Is there anything i can do on the ice to help?

How are you when it comes to your positioning or delivering your rock. When you kick out is your weight and legs with rock infront of you. Or are you leaning on the rock, with the rock being more under you than away. THis is the most common problem when it comes to controling your weight of the rock. if you are leaning on the rock then most then give the rock an extra push before relasing.

Dont forget if you were curling at an out of town event their ice is always different. The ice can be heavier or lighter. You can tell by checking the ice at the begining of the game. how much pepple is on the ice makes a difference. Also keep checking the ice as the game progresses as the ice will develope slick spots.

Other than these things it just takes practice getting to read the ice and being able to judge how fast you are coming out of the hack. Hope this helps. We all have bad days! Good luck and Good health to you.

Sounds like you are doing a bit of a "take-out strategy" game. You might want to learn a more aggressive, "chess" style of play.

It will be hard to make your weight shot more consistant without knowing how to gage your ice conditions. Are you consistantly short? Are you consistantly heavy? Maybe try to make strategies that are consistant with your inconsistancies.

On heavy ice, draw rocks into the house. Let your opponent do the take-outs.

On fast ice, figure out how your team's draw weight quickly.

Try not to have all of your game rest on one option. Try to set yourself up to suceed.

I am currently taking curling lessons and the main thing that I have learned is to have a game plan but be flexible. If plan A doesn't work, have plans B through Z in place.

Although practice helps, it is important to practice different weights. One way is to use interval timing (use a stopwatch and time from the back-line to the hog-line as you are throwing).

You can practice your delivery with a stopwatch instead of a watch and try to slide 3.2, 3.4, 3.6 and 3.8 seconds. Then in a game your sweepers and time the rocks, give you the appropriate interval time and you will have practiced it.

Also, it is important when you are in the hack ready to make a shot to think about where you want the rock to end up, rather than how heavy to through and especially not heavier or lighter than the last shot.
