Here's my advice for all linemen under the age of 16.
Your 40 time is irrelevant.
It doesn't matter.
You're not scoring the touchdown you're blocking the bad guys that want to tackle the guy that scores the touchdown.
You need to be able to explode off the line, make first contact with the enemy and put him out of the play and find another guy...
all of this within the first 10 yards.
YOUR job requires smarts...good common football sense...
and you have to be able to explode off the line of scrimmage and knock some guy on his butt.
If you can do that...no one cares about your 40 time.
Play good football.

Well, in high school, I was 6'2" and 260 and I ran a 5.20 and thought It was pretty good for an G. Turns out it's D-1 schools want even their linemen to be in the 4's.
Unless you're over three bills and 6'5"+, then you can time a little slower.
They shouldn't be timing anyone in middle school, anyway. The best way for a smaller sized lineman to play in college would be to
1. Be a center
2. Run a 4.9 40.
3. Have reallllly quick feet.

middle school....a 5.5 would be good. College 5.1-5.2. Under 5.0 is exception for even pro linemen.
