Haikus have 3 lines, the first with 5 syllables, the next with 7, and the last with 5. They are usually about nature and capture a snapshot of time, not try to tell a story or anything.

Tankas have 5 lines, with the syllables going 5-7-5-7-7. They are usually used to mark an occasion or event. They are older than haikus.

Well I don't know what Tanka is but I could help you with haikus.A haiku is a poem with 3 lines. The first line has 5 words in it. The second line has seven words in it. And the last line has 5 words in it.

See ya!

5 7 5 that's all I remember about haiku.
I think there is a 3 7 5 also. Haiku is about nature and love. I don't want to look it up on the stupid wikipedia, you can do that yourself.

Well blizzy blah blah, glad we ran into each other as I am a well respected Irish American limerick hatter and haiku aficionado. Here is a Haiku about haiku:

Five Seven then Five
That aint no jive, for real, girl
I makes me whole, yes

the haiku has the power, and the power is yours.
