how can i help my teenage daughter with a dress for her play in the music man?

i need help from the young at heart yet older than well our kids. for those who remember the music man and the old dresses they wore what can i do to authenticate that old look or where should i look to get the right answer. this is new too me i nor anyone else knows how too sew or do we know where too get material for such a project. my daughter has a beautiful voice she just needs a dress for that era too complete her look

Check out your local thrift shop and look in the formals and wedding dresses. With a little creative imagination, you can cut down the wedding dress, gather it in the back (with safety pins underneath) and add a satin bow. For the hat, purchase a straw hat, use some of the lace material from the wedding dress and achor it to the top of the hat with long sides for tying under the chin. Add light blue flowers to the front of the hat, the front of the dress (even consider a blue satin sash around the waist!) and a drawstring purse...

hi im only 16 but i have done that show twice...look around at thrift stores or maybe check out costume rental places...some are pretty cheap. i know i used this one pattern from simplicity for my costume. watch the movie and look at some examples there. the shw takes place in 1912 so do some research and find out what they wore. long skirts that just barley hit below the ankle, gloves bigs hats, long sleeved blouses...you'll figure something out...wish her luck!
