I just saw "Stranger Than Fiction" and thought it was a beautiful, touching movie. I didn't realize Will Ferrell was capable of pulling off such a heartfelt performance, I cried when he cried. I think he deserved an Oscar nomination. It made me think about what other past performances deserved a nomination but didn't receive one. I think Val Kilmer deserved a nomination for his performance as "Doc" Holliday in "Tombstone" back in1993 and Steve Carell as Frank in "Little Miss Sunshine". Who do you think deserved a nomination that didn't get one?

THOMAS C: While I agree that Ferrell's other movies are immature (though very funny) and not oscar worthy, If you did not see "Stranger Than Fiction" you do not know that this was not his normal movie fare. It was much more serious. It was unlike any other movie he has made. You need to see it before you say that.

I am not saying the actors that won didn't deserve it, and the "The Departed" was a fantastic movie. I just think Ferrell's performance was overlooked. Plus I want to know if any of you know of any other past performances you think deserved a nomination!

I saw "Stranger Than Fiction" and thought it was one of the best and most underrated films of 2006. It featured a breakthrough performance by Will Ferrell.
How wonderful was it to see Ferrell play a deep and multidimensional character? Certainly, the film proved that he can do a serious film as well as a funny one.
It would have been nice to seem him get an Oscar nomination. However, I believe the Academy got it right by giving the Best Actor award to Forest Whitaker.
I wholeheartedly agree with you that Kilmer deserved an Oscar nomination for playing "Doc" Holliday in "Tombstone."
"Doc Holliday: I'm your huckleberry." That was a classic scene!
In addition, I honestly believe that Abigail Breslin should have received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Her performance in "Little Miss Sunshine" was so delightful and natural.

Why might the action picture be panned? in simple terms because of fact the director is Indian vs. an African American? How is it that Jewish Steven Spielberg could make movies approximately WASPS or Catholics with out this scrutiny. i think of you're being hyper-serious because of fact the portrayal is offensive to you because of fact it basically shows the slums of India. you will possibly think of that Californians may be indignant each time a action picture is set in South helpful l. a. then. aspects of the international have undesirable aspects that get highlighted in action pictures, an analogous with appealing and extravagant aspects of the international. recover from it. And....I too think of the action picture is slightly puffed up. It replaced right into a great action picture, yet i don't see it as "existence changing" like some have categorized it.

2006 was a weak Oscar year. We didn't have a Philip Seymour Hoffman-like performance, so when you think about it. Ferrell's performance was one of the best of 2006. Unfortunately, 2006 was not a strong year and therefore it seems as though his performacne was unworthy.

I did not see the movie but Will Farrell is not Oscar caliber material. If Scorcese did not get it then I would have hoped for Clint Eastwood again. Most of Farrells movies are rediculously immature(Elf!!) and is better suited to continue with the the kiddy flicks. Now,Forrest Whitaker, there is an actor long sidelined for Oscar nominations.

Very good film but do not think the performance was oscar worthy especially when you consider the one's nominated this past year.
