if we all have our own opinions (i.e. some think bush is smart, some think bush is stupid) then how can we correctly define the term?

does "smart" have just one solid meaning?

10.clever, witty, or readily effective, as a speaker, speech, rejoinder, etc.
11.dashingly or impressively neat or trim in appearance, as persons, dress, etc.
12.socially elegant; sophisticated or fashionable: the smart crowd.
13.saucy; pert: smart remarks.
14.sharply brisk, vigorous, or active: to walk with smart steps

That's just a FEW definitions..
Just because someone is SMART doesn’t mean they do not do dumb acts or things…

People have smarts in many different ways. I am a professional in Computers AND a professional artist.. But don’t ask me to fix your car or do brain surgery… LOL

Isn’t if fascinating that people call people “stupid” but do not put forth the effort to equal the status that the accused has reached. You notice that even the democrats in power don’t call Bush stupid… How can you call someone stupid then say they tricked you. I am not for or against Bush. I’m just stating a fact that proves the “smarts” of both sides of the political spectrum…

I don’t use someone else’s terminology to cast a deciding vote to weather to like or dislike, or call someone smart or stupid.. They just might be smart, (like a fox).

Smart, to me, is knowing what is real and what is not. Anybody now can get a degree, call himself "Professor or Doctor" and be classed as "Smart." Look at some of our "Esteemed scholars and Professors of Today." Some you can class as a Joke, only reading about things he's never experienced, nor can relate to. Example: I hear some people give their philosophy about the poor, and yet, they have never been to a Ghetto, nor seen the people in it. Only at a glance, probably driving home or something. But, some you can class as a highly teachable person. An instructor of character. They didn't read about it, they lived it. Or they took the time to do research in the heart of America. The Ghetto itself. Those you can define as smart. They have seen it with their own eyes, making it credible for their students when they step into the real world.

It's an intrusting question, because the same can be said about 'truth'. Something can be false today, but true tommarow. It's totally possible.

Now, to you're topic. Smart. My personal beliefe is that smart is basically just a idea that a certain being has extensive knolege in a certain topic. The question that's brought up here is, what's the 'limit' to being considerd smart. Making Wise dicisions? Who defines wise?

In a philosophilca sence, it would be difficult to answer, because it's a debate. it's contrary to the point that smart is an idea, that somebody posses absolute knolege, which as we all know is not possible.

There isn't any one perfect definition of "smart" but I can do my best to define what "smart" means for me personally. I think that there are different kinds of intelligence, but here are a few of the ones that are important to me:

* The ability to learn. People who can learn quickly are "smarter", but speed of learning isn't the only thing to being "smart"--a lot of it is the desire to learn and to continually expose yourself to new ideas.
* The ability to "think outside the box", find deeper meaning in things, or understand the limitations of a question or its answer. Intelligence is not being able to do what you're told--it's being able to realize the things that you were never told.
* The ability to understand the world and make useful predictions about what will happen in certain situations--not necessarily by using reason or logic; I think that many people can be "smart" when their gut feelings prove to be true, even if they don't understand the reasons behind these feelings. This also resonates with a lot of notions of animal intelligence--animals are considered intelligent when they are able to pick up cues in their environment and act accordingly to get what they want (like getting food or escaping from a predator).

I hope this answers your question...I know it's not a complete answer but it's the one that's most useful for me personally.

Being smart does not also mean intelligent. Being smart can be witty, knowledgeable about a specific subject, or simply a person who is well read and is capable of explaining the facts.

The book "Another Thought" by OC Tross fully explains this concept.

I personally don't believe there is such a thing as 'smart' or 'stupid'. I think there just labels used by the lazy percentage of our general population.

I'm thirteen - years - old, I'm a published poet, a winner of the Editor's Choice Award, and I'm tutoring people in High School.

Yet, I can not view myself as intelligent. I am the way that I am because I love to read and write; and I often spend hours everyday doing so. I just believe that some people have different hobbies, and that the way the way they act, as well as their reaction to academics all depends on those hobbies.

I also have the tendency to believe that passion plays a very large roll in what you refer to as 'intelligence'. It takes passion and a strong will to get to where you want to be in this harsh world, whether it's to climb the business latter or a latter of 'intelligence', is for you to decide.

Personally, my faith plays a very strong role in my mind. I want to serve God as best as I possibly can in this world and I'm willing to do everything and anything in this world to do so. It is God that brings me to what I feel is the highest point in my life.

Yes it does, dear person...
Smart is a quality that encompases morality, ethics, action and intent. It isn't defined by a degree, or scholastic achievment... or by vocabulary, quiz scores, or anything else. It is defined by action... smart IS as smart DOES! The noodle-head who pulled you out of a burning house is a genius. The Rhoades Scholar who figured out the percentage of survival is an idiot. Intelligence = action. Nuff said.....

I think being smart is complex. There is so much knowledge in this world that it is impossible for everyone to know everything. So there are those who are smart when it comes to mathematics, engineering and those who are street smart. I don't think "smart" can be defined.

Haram means (taboo) worship means to observe and obey God and to know him,I didn't find in the Quran any thing of what you said,in fact to the contrary of that .Allah wants you to live your life normally and enjoy it but for your own good refrain from doing some things which are bad for you and the others, these things are called Haram,so as to what you were saying attraction to the other gender is not haram as long as it ends the legal way i.e marriage and it 'll benefit you in the hereafter because God ordained marriage and thus you're obeying God,and obeying him is worshiping him.
