there is way too many to list thm all, but here are some shortened words :
lol = lots of laughs
brb = be right back
ram = random access memory (what computers use to store things like letters, dots, numbers, etc.)
rom = read only memory (like above but this time the storage cant be changed and is fixed for good (like a song on a CD)
hardware = u can kick hardware, like a printer, a monitor, or a scanner.
software = u cant kick software, like the data that makes up programs or pictures.
:) = a smiling face
;) = a winking face
:( = a sad face
gl = good luck
wd = well done
u = you
ppl = people
in fact there are heaps and heaps of abrivations and short words, when using the net to talk to people (sorry ppl) u will soon get the hang of all the shortened words that are popular.

IM shorthand, in other words? Irritating, isn't it? This list is by no means complete, but here's some of the common run-ins I've had:
1) lol. Laughing Out Loud.
2) roflol. Rolling On the Floor Laughing Out Loud.
3) roflmao. Rolling On the Floor Laughing My *** Off.
4) fww. For What it's Worth.
5) imho. In My Humble Opinion. (Also imo, which is "In My Opinion.")
6) brb. Be Right Back. Usually seen in IM conversations when one person needs to attend to something away from the computer.
7) AFAIK. As Far As I Know.
8) IMS. If Memory Serves.
I've seen others, but to me they all mean the same thing: INTLTT. I Need To Learn To Type.
