Pauliesee is exactly right but Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis also think they started "rock n roll". It IS a derivative from the Delta Blues BUT the Delta Blues is actually a derivative of Black Gospel (old spirituals) so you can thank our African-American buddies for being the TRUE fathers of classic rock. Just listen to a lot of Led Zep...you'd think it is heavy rock and roll but some of their songs are just remixes of the Delta Blues.

Classic rocks influence started with Elvis which migrated from early blues,Louisiana delta blues like Muddy Waters.So its very fair to say Rock n roll migrated from blues.
