Coral is a living organism. they eat, reproduce, etc. Its just not a mineral, its like asking why is a cat not a plant... it just isnt

Minerals are naturally occuring, inorganic solid with a definite structure. Coral isn't a mineral because it isn't inorganic(it's alive), it is not a solid and doesn't have a unique chemical composition.

Mostly beacuse it is of biogenic in origin. However it is made of clacium carbonate, commonly known as limestone.

Coal is not alive, it is just made from plant material which got conpressed and underwent burial.
