check the settings on your mams wireless internet connection, if its a protected connecton you'll have to change the settings to allow ur laptop to connect, settings can usually b found in control panel, network connections then find the wireless settings, with a bit of luck this should sort u out. fingers crossed

She has a router but does the laptop first off have either an internal or external wireless card? If it does go to the start menu then controls and look for the wireless actions. Or check for the wireless network icon near the time and date at the bottom of screen and click on it. It should bring up a window and look for check wireless connnections.

there are many setting in the router and most of them are for security reasons. you have to make sure you have any encryption code included, if MAC address blocking is being used, if authentication is required, etc.
From here computer, log into the router on it's main IP address and reveiw all the settings.
You'll find a few that you'll have to set in your computer.
If all else fails, turn all security off, and add one at a time until you get full functionality.
