(pi)r^2
16 inch = 200.96 square inches
2 * 8 inch = 100 sq inch
definatly the 16 inch, it makes sense because 2 8 inchers are the same width as one 19 inch when side to side, but they are half the height. the 2 8 inchers sit side by side in the area of the 16 inch.
I can't believe how many people thought it was the 2 8 inches or they were the same!! The mistake comes from doubling the radius before you square it when calculating the area:
2(pi)(r^2) correct vs. wrong (pi)(2r)^2
not that anyone cares!

16''
Pi x Radius(8) x Radius(8)=201.061
2 8''
Pi x Radius(4) x Radius(4) x Number of pizzas(2) = 100.530
Hence, 1 16'' pizza is bigger than 2 8'' pizzas.

There are many unmentioned variables:
1. Are they both square? Both round? One square, one round? Other shape (I have seen others)?
2. How much area is the crust accounting for?
3. frozen pizza or hot out of the oven?--this can make a difference.
4. Are we no-topping pizzas or extra toppings?
5. Etc.

They're both the same. 1 x 16 is 16. 2 x 8 is 16. So therefore, both pizzas would be equivilant.

area if 16" pizza = 3.1415 (pi) x 8x8 = 201.056
area of 2 8" pizza = 3.1415 (pi)x4x4x2= 200.528
more pizza in 1x16" than 2 8" pizzas
