Andy Kaufman & his buddy got their kicks from playing practical jokes on the public but only they got the laughs. The very end is a speculation that his death was one of their jokes and maybe he is still alive.
Its one of those movies you may need to watch more than once.
I hope this helps.

This is a good question. Maybe Joel and Ethan Coen's No Country is the finest, most important American movie to come along in several years. It is adapted from Cormac McCarthy's novel which is likewise one of the finest works of American literature to come by in years. Here goes: this is what I think it meant. The retired Sheriff sees his father go by him in the dark with fire to show his son the way forward. The poor Sheriff sees that this is not a country for old men and that as he is now an old man he is unfit to deal with the incredible violence of the times, unlike the way that his father was, although his father did not have to face this new kind of violence. Since the film seems to indicate he is correct, since Anton Chirguh has defeated him, it is an ironic hope of the Sheriff that his father is still out there in the dark waiting for him, showing him the way. We who have watched the movie, can cling to that hope that all is not lost, but McCarthy and the Coens certainly don't believe that. By the look on Tommy Lee Jones' face neither does he. The story's dark theme, which Jones' character has sadly accepted, is that evil has already won the battle for our country. I have loved Tommy Lee Jones ever since Black Moon Rising way back in 1986; he had no chance to win the Oscar because all the attention was riveted on Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin, his costars, but this may be the finest acting he has ever done in a movie throughout his career. I hope this answer helped.

It is supposed to be ambiguous, because before Andy Kaufman was diagnosed with cancer he told some close friends that he was considering faking his own death and that if he did it he would probably pretend to have cancer. I also believe he was writing a screenplay in which the main character faked his death by pretending to have lung cancer, but he didn't get to finish it because he died.

The ending was supposed to represnet the idea that Andy Kauffman (sp?) faked his death. Some say he's still alive and using another name. some say he's really dead.

Well, it shows that he died...but since he was such a practical joker, people thought he may have faked his death as the ultimate joke...so that's what it's really trying to show.

The older sister falls for the cute guy and they end up having sex. The little sister finds out and gets pissed. Then, the cute guy falls off his tractor and is killed by it. The mom fall after she goes after her daughter in a storm and goes into premature labor. I don't remeber if this happens before cute guy dies or not. At the end of the movie, little sister and older sister come to some sort of truce. They actually start to become friends.

I think its supposed to mean that his spirit and style of comedy will live on or it might be to support the rumour that hes still alive.
