I think we can see from the map showing us there's a connection around Turkey, that is, this country stretches to cover both Europe and Asia. Therefore, there's a blend of two words (Europe, Asia), Eur+Asia = Eurasia. However, presumably I think there're more countries spanning in both continents like the former USSR. You can see now a part of Russia is also in Asia next to China so sometimes reporters or speakers tend to include both continents by using 'Eurasia' instead of saying the names of the two continents twice.

Certain parts of Europe are connected to Asia like Russia. Those regions are called Eurasia and the people there, Eurasian.

Eurasia is the region of Europe and the region of Asia that are connected, hence the origin of the word Eurasia.
