Ok, so I had AVG on my computer. I just bought Norton 2007 internet security, and I want to install it, but I have to get rid of AVG first. I have deleted AVG from my add/remove programs, and deleted Grisoft(AVG company) from my directory. However the folder is STILL in my program files, I've tried to delete it but it will not allow me to. I've held shift as I tried to delete, that didn't work.

I still can't install Norton, it fails every time.

Any suggestions?

Safe mode doesn't work at all, all I end up getting is file checking text and it stops half way through.

Install AVG again and Uninstall it straight away through. Ad or Remove I had that problem not long ago and that's the cure, Its the same for many application that refuse to go. You see the uninstall facility for AVG has been uninstalled if you know what I mean!?! You have to download the whole program to get tte uninstaller back. I guaranty you it will fix the problen. Bye Now And Good Luck.

thats unusual if you have removed the program and rebooted you should be able to delete folder. You have rebooted I take it to have it not loaded in memory ? Windows will not let you delete a program file if it is in use If you are sure you removed it properly and still can't remove folder, come up in safe mode F8 on boot up before windows opens and delete it.

This is probably a registry problem. If you are happy doing a regedit, search for AVG or Grisoft and delete the occurrences. Otherwise, visit www.symantec.com and look up their support pages.

I would've stayed with AVG myself but, if you have spybot S&D there is a "Shredder" in tools that easily delete locked folders (just drag and drop)
But without that, Safe mode is your option.
