I've a dispute over a car repair bill. Put a stop payment on the check and now wants to go to small claims court to recover. Replaced the water pump but installed it improperly. Had it done right by my regular mechanic. What can I expect in small claims court? How can I prepare?

Make sure you have all of your information present and organized. Your mechanic can accompany you to court or you can bring a copy of his sworn statement. From him you will need his statement that the water pump was improperly installed and the cost to repair this issue. You should also bring a copy of the original car repair bill, your new repair bill and copy of the check if you have it. Also be prepared to explain, in detail why you are asking for the amount you are seeking. At the hearing the judge will ask each side to present his story and provide any evidence he has to support his claim. Being organized and prepared will go a long way.

You would have to be able to prove that the water pump was improperly installed. Your regular mechanic could testify to what he found. Also if you can find any other of this person's dissatisfied customers, that might help too.
