Its our mind...helping us cope with the negatives around us. The brain is sending signals that this person is hurting, and it could be read as mixed signals, and one way this can be interpreted as is...the body hurting. This can also be beneficial, because it allows the person to rest, which in the long-run, can help you deal with the emotional hurting. if that makes sense....

I don't believe it's actually the heart that hurts, but rather other muscles in the chest. Stress causes muscles to tighten up, and chest muscles are especially affected during stress--which is why people having panic attacks feel like they can't breath: it's because of the tightened muscles in the chest.
The oddest emotional pain is that powerful ache toward the bottom of the throat/upper chest area. It's just weird, I think, for emotional pain to cause physical pain... but it does.

When we are in pain it's a type of stress on our bodies.Depression comes with some physical pain too.
when you feel bad you will always suffer the results of
pain mentally,physically, and Spiritually.So that's my
sincere answer.Try some hot tea and a hot bath and rest
for now.You can't change things so let it all go.

The Heart as an organ dosent hurt.
Our inner self, spirit, soul depending on what your belief is, aches.
Some people hyperventilate when they cry, even get upset to cause stress in the body. this is the only way to cause pain to our physical self.

physical means measurable or observable
emotions can be felt but not seen
we can only observe a small fragment of reality
just because you cant see it doesnt mean its not real
the soul and body arent two different things
your emotions and your physical body
are two aspects of your one self
like an object can have shape and color

Because our body and soul are united and when we are sad our soul is hurt and our body manifests that hurt.
