My sister is writing a book and asked me to find this out for her. She wants to know how to get her book published. Where to go, who to talk to that kind of stuff. If you know a site or something that I could tell her to come to that would be great.

That website goes to a publisher that you pay to have your book published. If your sister is looking for a publisher to pay HER for her book, she needs to get a copy of Writer's Guide 2007, I think you can access it on line as well. It has a section on how to get your book published. More than likely, she will need an agent since most publishers don't even look at unsolicited manuscripts any more, but they have a list of agents and their requirements, too. Also, check out About.com, it may have some info.

The best thing to look at is the Writer's Digest Writer's Market. It lists book and magazine publishers. Once she finds a publisher, she can check online to see if their guidelines are posted on their website.

And she might not need an agent. There are plenty of publishers out there that take unagented work. In the writing group I belong to, 5 of the 6 of us are published and 4 of that 5 do not have agents.

Tell her not to worry about it until she gets her first book written. After that, she needs to pick up Writers Market and study it. That's where she'll find out who is accepting what.

Books that will help her along the way include the Elements of Style by Strunk & White and the Fiction Writing Series from Writers Digest Books. Characters & Viewpoint is one of the best books in that series.
