first of all, you misspelled the word 'sense' in your question.

the sentence should read: Cavour was also responsible for the joinign of the southern areas that he conquered along with the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia.

How about:

Cavour was also responsible for joining the southern areas he had conquered with the Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia

Yep, it sounds pretty good. I would just change one thing:
